Ghana to mark World Tourism Day 2026 with Eastern Expo in Koforidua

Ghana is preparing to observe World Tourism Day 2026 through a week-long celebration in Koforidua, the Eastern Region. This event will be combined with the Eastern Expo, aiming to promote tourism, culture, creative arts, and investment. The celebration, set from September 26 to October 3, will revolve around the theme, “Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Trade, Tourism and Investment.”

The festivities will kick off on Saturday, September 26, with a health walk to promote wellness and public engagement. World Tourism Day, marked globally on Sunday, September 27, will see stakeholders engage in a workshop on the digital agenda and artificial intelligence in reshaping the tourism sector. Experts and industry players will gather to discuss opportunities and challenges presented by these technologies, with a focus on sustainable tourism practices and investment.

The week-long programme will formally commence on Monday, September 28, with the Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, leading the opening ceremony. An exhibition during this period will showcase tourism products and services, providing opportunities for marketing, networking, and potential partnerships.

The celebration aims to underscore tourism's role in economic growth, job creation, enterprise development, and community participation. It aligns with the Black Star Experience, highlighting Ghana's Eastern Region's tourism and investment potential. The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts is urging stakeholders and the public to actively participate in these activities as Ghana strives to foster a sustainable tourism sector that supports livelihoods and national development.
