Games-South Korea team condemn Asian Games organisers over logistical 'shortcomings'

Dubai witnessed an unexpected India victory against Japan in a rain-delayed T20 match ahead of the Asian Games 2026. The game, played at the Sano International Cricket Stadium, concluded with India winning by just two runs. The match began after a lengthy delay due to the wet outfield, and only saw play for five overs each. India elected to bat first, with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson taking the field before falling to Japan's Charlie Hara-Hinze, who claimed Sharma's wicket on the final ball of the first over.

Samson followed suit to give Takashi his maiden wicket. Ishan Kishan, who had been in good form, was dismissed by Benjamin Ito-Davis in the third over. India managed only 32 runs in their five overs, leaving Japan with a significant target. Japan's captain, Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming, scored 12 runs before being run out, and Takashi managed a boundary before being dismissed by Washington Sundar.

Despite their loss, Japan's effort was commendable, and they will face Afghanistan in their opening Asian Games 2026 match on September 24. India, meanwhile, secured their spot in the quarterfinals with their win, thanks to their number one ranking in T20I cricket. They will face the runners-up of Group A in their next match, which could again be Japan.

India's first Asian Games match is scheduled for September 28 against Nepal, a team that recently won the 2026 ACC Men’s Premier’s Cup.
