Exclusive-Anthropic, OpenEvidence partner to bring medical AI worldwide

Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence startup, has partnered with OpenEvidence, a platform providing medical knowledge, to bring AI-powered clinical decision support to physicians in underserved regions worldwide. OpenEvidence offers a free platform to clinicians in the United States and Europe, answering their questions based on peer-reviewed medical research and treatment guidelines.

This new collaboration will provide a specialized version of OpenEvidence to healthcare providers in over 100 countries, including Uganda, Angola, Sudan, Haiti, and Mongolia. The initiative aims to make access to medical knowledge independent of geographical location. Daniel Nadler, OpenEvidence founder, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, "Access to medical knowledge shouldn't depend on geography."

In the United States alone, clinicians consulted OpenEvidence 42 million times in August. Furthermore, Nadler predicted that in 2026, several hundred million Americans will have been treated by a doctor who utilized the platform. Anthropic's technology will support the backend of the system, while OpenEvidence will adapt it to various regions, considering healthcare infrastructure.

Anthropic president Daniela Amodei explained the significance of this partnership, saying, "The technology itself has advanced so dramatically that the sort of structure needed for (bringing OpenEvidence to low-resource regions) is there, but the market incentives alone would not let it happen without this type of entrepreneurial, philanthropically-minded work."

OpenEvidence has previously collaborated with health organizations in Rwanda and Botswana to tailor its tools for specific disease patterns, diagnostic resources, and available treatments.
