Ex-India fast bowler Zaheer Khan appointed Chennai Super Kings head coach for IPL 2027

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's influence was instrumental in Chennai Super Kings' decision to appoint Zaheer Khan as their new head coach, according to CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan. The veteran pacer, 47, assumes leadership of one of the most successful franchises in IPL history following a mutual decision to end Stephen Fleming's tenure.

Viswanathan revealed that Dhoni's suggestion of Zaheer's name led the management to reach an agreement with the former India pacer. Zaheer's tactical acumen and ability to decipher the opposition's game plans are seen as valuable assets for the team. The announcement of Zaheer's appointment was made through a social media post, heralding a new chapter for CSK.

The Indian franchise, which previously enjoyed five IPL titles under Fleming's leadership, has faced challenges in recent seasons, including missing the playoffs in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
