Deeney, speaking on talkSPORT, believes the team's issues can be traced back to Carrick's attempts to force Marcus Rashford into the starting lineup. He remarks, "I will make it sound like it’s a Marcus Rashford thing, but you had something that worked, with Cunha, Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes, and it’s just that number nine, that is an issue." The absence of Cunha, Mbeumo, and Bruno Fernandes, along with the return of Sean O'Driscoll, seems to have disrupted the team's already struggling dynamic.

Carrick's decision to revert to his previous strategy, ignoring Rashford's performances, appears to be a significant factor in United's woes. The striker has failed to score a goal or provide an assist for the Red Devils since his loan deal with Barcelona expired at the end of last season.
