Eight wounded in shooting outside Turkey school and suspect detained, official says

An assailant unleashed gunfire outside a high school in western Turkey on Tuesday, leaving eight individuals injured before being apprehended by law enforcement, according to local officials. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. (local time) in Turgutlu, within the Manisa province, situated near the western resort city of Izmir. The regional governor's office confirmed the event.

School shootings are uncommon in Turkey, although two attacks transpired in April on consecutive days in southern Turkey, which elicited significant outrage. Various media outlets such as IHA news agency and NTV private television reported that students were among the casualties, with police and rescuers swiftly arriving at the scene.

DHA news agency aired CCTV footage of the alleged perpetrator, a young man dressed in black jeans, a black jacket, and a green top, walking along a street while carrying what seemed to be a rifle. Another image resembling the same individual holding a gun, but this time running, was also broadcasted by IHA. Footage captured outside the school depicted police subduing a man in a white shirt and leading him away as a woman screamed, with onlookers pressing against the school.
