Ducati, Governo in campo per riportarla in Italia e incontro con Volkswagen

The political phase of the Ducati case is underway. On Monday, September 21st, 2026, Minister of Enterprises Adolfo Urso, Emilia-Romagna President Michele De Pascale, and Confindustria President Emanuele Orsini visited Borgo Panigale to meet with Ducati's CEO Claudio Domenicali. The meeting is preparing a Friday showdown between the Government and Volkswagen executives, who want to know if the German company has truly decided to bring the Ducati brand to market.

The urgency of the dossier increased after Volkswagen started reviewing its portfolio: Ducati is among 600 activities out of 2,000 being examined. Audi, which controls the brand since 2012, has confirmed that the transfer talks are being discussed, but no formal decision has been made yet. The German group is facing a restructuring and a 2026 that could close with a margin not exceeding 1% after the latest profit warning.

Ducati, however, remains a healthy asset. In 2025, it delivered 50,895 motorcycles, generated 925 million euros in revenue, and had an operating profit of 52 million euros, with a 5.6% margin. Bloomberg Intelligence values Ducati at 1.25 billion euros. This explains why an institutional front is forming around Borgo Panigale. "In case of a sale, as a country, we have it all," De Pascale said, recalling the approximately 2,000 direct jobs and the upside potential.

Minister Urso raised the stakes: "I am determined," he said, supporting that "the time has come for this company to return fully in Italian hands." The Government is ready to use all available tools, including Golden Power. Discreet reports suggest the Executive already has a solution in case of a sale, even considering a Cdp intervention, which has denied the rumor.

De Pascale affirmed that Ducati "is one of the symbols of Italian engineering." On Friday, it will be clear if the dossier remains a preventive safeguard or turns into a system operation.
