Colts Adding Veteran Wide Receiver Amid Alec Pierce Injury News: Report

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce suffered an injury to his surgically repaired heel during Sunday night's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 26-year-old had to leave the field in the first half of the 33-30 overtime loss. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Pierce will try to recover from the injury without requiring another surgery.

He is anticipated to be sidelined for several weeks, but could potentially return to the team mid-season. It's probable that Pierce will be placed on Injured Reserve while he heals. If his recovery progresses smoothly, surgery may not be necessary. However, surgery remains a possibility. Shortly after this report, Tom Pelissero announced that the Colts are set to sign veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton.

Slayton spent the initial seven years of his NFL career with the New York Giants, but was released before their season opener. He joined the Giants in the same year that quarterback Daniel Jones joined the same team. In 2025, Slayton appeared in 14 games and started 12, recording 37 catches for 538 yards and one touchdown.
