A crisis in Ceuta is punishing Moroccans across Spain, according to a young man who arrived in 2021. Anas Aouin, aged 20 from Tetuán, crossed over from Ceuta in his teenage years, anticipating a dream of obtaining papers, securing a job, and living in Spain. He currently holds a position at a restaurant in Málaga's port, where he boasts of his accomplishments.

However, the journey hasn't been without challenges, including three years in a juvenile center and encountering racism from some sections of Spanish society. While he acknowledges that "only some" exhibit such behavior, he notes that the situation has worsened in the wake of the recent influx in Ceuta. Aouin reports facing "negative comments," using straightforward Castilian with a strong accent to describe his experiences.

In his daily life, he strives to minimize their impact, a tactic he terms "normalizing." Yet, he continues to find the rising language hostility disconcerting, particularly on social media platforms where anonymity breeds negativity. Aouin protests, "I read things like 'we need to kick them out.' But if we also lift up our country!"
