British man pleads guilty to negligence in fatal fall of his 3-year-old son while in Cyprus

A British man appeared in court on Monday, admitting to negligence for the fatal fall of his 3-year-old son from a hotel window while on vacation in Cyprus. The unnamed 37-year-old defendant, who was accompanied by his parents in court, will return to the Paphos District Court on October 5 for sentencing. His lawyer, Alexandros Alexandrou, stated that his client pleaded guilty to avoid a lengthy trial and to spare his family from reliving the tragedy.

The maximum penalty for the crime is four years in prison and a fine. The court has denied a request to drop the case on humanitarian grounds. Cyprus, a popular tourist destination for Britons, received around 4 million visitors in recent years.
