Brazilian President Lula commends Mahama for leading global reparatory justice push

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has hailed Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama and the nation for spearheading the global reparatory justice movement. Speaking at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Lula applauded Ghana's role in bringing awareness to historical injustices resulting from the transatlantic slave trade.

This follows the adoption of a Ghana-led UN resolution, which has spurred further calls for action. President Mahama has been instrumental in garnering international backing for reparatory justice and urging the world to transition from acknowledgment to tangible steps addressing the slave trade's consequences and associated wrongdoings.

Ghana has been a focal point in recent UN General Assembly discussions, with multiple mentions of its leadership in advancing the reparatory justice cause. President Mahama has also been engaging in one-on-one meetings with leaders of several countries during the UN General Assembly, aiming to bolster bilateral ties, fortify cooperation, and explore collaborative opportunities in fields of mutual benefit.

These meetings are set to result in agreements and memoranda of understanding between Ghana and several nations.
