(Asiad) S. Korean stars Oh Sang-uk, Hwang Sun-woo set for title bids at Asian Games

NAGOYA, Japan - South Korean fencer Oh Sang-uk and swimmer Hwang Sun-woo are set to vie for Asian Games titles at the upcoming Asiad in Japan, according to Yonhap news agency.

Oh, a renowned figure in South Korean fencing, boasts multiple Olympic gold medals and world championship titles to his name. At the Asian Games in 2018, he claimed the team title, and in 2023, he dominated by securing both the individual and team sabre titles. In Nagoya, Oh aims to repeat his success from the 2020 Paris Olympics, targeting gold medals in both the men's individual and team sabre events.

On the women's side, Park Ji-hee and Mo Byeol-i will be competing in the women's individual foil event, with their goal being to secure podium finishes. In swimming, Hwang Sun-woo is gunning for his second consecutive gold in the men's 200-meter freestyle, having previously won the title at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. However, Hwang faced a dip in performance at the 2024 Olympics and needs to bounce back by defending his Asian Games title. His teammate Kim Woo-min will also be competing in the same event.

Meanwhile, in the world of shooting, Olympic champion Oh Ye-jin will be targeting her first Asian Games gold in both the women's 10m air pistol individual and team events.
