Amazon blocks Metas Muse AI agent from shopping

Meta's new AI agent Muse, intended to be a digital assistant that completes tasks autonomously, has reportedly been blocked from shopping on Amazon. GeekWire reported that users attempting to have Muse purchase products from Amazon are now presented with a warning stating that such actions violate Amazon's terms of use. This comes after Meta introduced Muse earlier this month as an AI agent capable of performing various tasks, including shopping.

Muse is powered by Meta's most advanced model, Muse Spark, which is designed for real-world agentic work. Amazon's conditions of use prohibit the use of autonomous agents like Muse unless they comply with specific transparency requirements, such as identifying themselves as an agent and not attempting to impersonate humans. Amazon also reserves the right to block Muse's access at its discretion.

Amazon's spokesperson confirmed that third-party applications like Muse should operate openly and respect Amazon's decisions regarding participation. Meta has allegedly failed to inform Amazon about Muse accessing its storefront, raising potential security concerns as credentials may be captured and stored by the AI agent. Amazon is currently testing its own AI shopping agent, Buy for Me, which can purchase products on users' behalf on its platform and from third-party vendors.
