Alan Kyerematen explains why he contested 2024 election under Movement for Change

Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, the leader of the United Party (UP), has provided insight into his decision to contest the 2024 general elections under the Movement for Change. The UP leader explained that the limited window between his resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the election date made it untenable for him to build a fully-fledged political party.

Kyerematen acknowledged that he had decided to leave the NPP and embark on a different political journey, but recognized the practical constraints that hindered him from fully establishing a conventional political party within the given timeframe. Consequently, he opted to run for president under the Movement for Change, a political platform that served as the vehicle for his candidacy while articulating his intended policies and ideologies.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Kyerematen elaborated that the Movement for Change was selected as the appropriate organization due to the lack of time to establish a new party. He emphasized that the legal framework permitted him to contest under a political organization rather than forming a traditional political party, but stressed that the designation of the vehicle was secondary to the underlying principles it represented.

For Kyerematen, the crucial aspect was the core principle that drove the Movement for Change, which ultimately guided his electoral participation.
