Agency says sea turtle eggs laid on California beaches are a first for the US West Coast

(AP) — A sea turtle believed to be struggling on a Southern California beach was actually laying eggs, marking history as the first recorded nesting of a sea turtle species on the U.S. West Coast. The olive ridley turtle, weighing up to 100 pounds, laid eggs near Seal Beach on September 16, followed by another sighting at Huntington Beach three days later. Authorities fenced off both nesting sites. Incubation typically lasts 45 to 60 days, and officials expressed excitement about the event.
