2027 Poll: Tinubu, Uzodimma Urge Police to Maintain Highest Sense of Professionalism

President Bola Tinubu and Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State have urged the Nigeria Police to uphold the highest level of professionalism during the upcoming general election. At the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO) in Owerri, both leaders emphasized the need for the police to maintain neutrality and impartiality while safeguarding the electoral process.

Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, addressed the officers, stressing the importance of readiness, accountability, and collaboration with other security agencies. Tinubu, represented by Senator George Akume, assured the police of federal government support for reforms, training, technology, welfare, and operational logistics.

Uzodimma, as host, urged the police to enhance intelligence-led policing, digital technology use, and inter-agency coordination to address new election security challenges posed by misinformation and digital manipulation.

The six-point roadmap unveiled by Disu focuses on intelligence, training, joint command, communication, community partnership, and neutrality. Disu warned against vote-buying, arms mobilisation, intimidation, and incitement, vowing that offenders would face prosecution regardless of their status. He emphasized the need for early threat detection, effective intelligence-sharing, and coordinated responses to ensure a peaceful and credible general election.
