14,200 Litres Of Illicit Mahua Liquor Seized, 12 Furnaces Destroyed In Bhopal

In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, the rural police and excise department carried out a significant joint operation at Tarawali Dera in the Berasia area on Tuesday morning. Acting on a tip-off, the team managed to seize 14,200 liters of illegally manufactured mahua liquor, along with the destruction of twelve underground furnaces used for distillation.

The operation was led by SP Rural Pankaj Kumar Pandey, with the assistance of 127 police and excise personnel, including 75 from Bhopal Rural Police and 52 from the excise department.

Upon sensing the presence of the authorities, those involved in manufacturing hooch at the Dera quickly abandoned their houses, leaving behind 71 drums filled with illicit mahua liquor. The seized quantity complied with procedure, while the remainder was immediately destroyed on the spot. Two boilers used for brewing the liquor were also seized during the raid.

The operation, coordinated by SDOP Durjan Singh Barkade, Berasia TI Rambabu Choudhary, Gunga TI Rinku Jatav, and Inspector Narendra Yadav, highlighted the organized nature of bootlegging activities in the region. Bootleggers operate in a well-structured manner, utilizing associates to monitor roads leading to the village and alerting them about any police raids.

The illicit liquor produced in Tarawali and nearby villages is reportedly sold within a one-kilometer radius, often in small plastic pouches for prices ranging from Rs 20 to 40. Despite repeated raids, illicit hooch manufacturing and sale continue to resurface shortly after.
