WHO donates drugs to Zamfara for cholera, diphtheria

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently donated essential medicines to the Zamfara State Ministry of Health. This move is aimed at enhancing the state's readiness and response capabilities against cholera, diphtheria, and other vaccine-preventable diseases.

Dr Raji Mukhtar, the WHO State Coordinator, presented the drugs to the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, during a ceremony in Gusau. Maradun, on behalf of the state government, expressed gratitude to the WHO for its unwavering support and partnership in bolstering public health interventions in the state.

Maradun highlighted that the donation would significantly bolster the state's ability to prepare and respond to outbreaks of cholera, diphtheria, and other vaccine-preventable diseases. She further assured that the medicines would be meticulously managed and utilized for their intended purpose, particularly in the treatment and management of cases across the state.

Maradun also lauded the WHO and other development partners for their collaborative efforts with the state government in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of Zamfara residents. The WHO state coordinator, Dr Mukhtar, assured the government that the organization would continue its support in strengthening public health interventions in the state.
