When will the UAE cool down? The signs summer is coming to an end

Summer is gradually giving way to autumn in the UAE. As the sun crosses the equator, astronomical autumn begins at 4.05am on Wednesday, September 23. This marks the start of the sun's southward movement, leading to roughly equal day and night lengths. Average temperatures drop from around 39°C during the day and 26°C at night at the season's beginning to about 31°C and 18°C by early November.

Towards the winter solstice on December 22, temperatures are expected to be around 25°C during the day and 13°C at night. Meteorologically, however, autumn has already started, with September 1 marked as its official beginning. Weather specialists observe a noticeable drop in temperatures from the peak summer months, when daytime temperatures frequently exceed 42°C and minimum temperatures surpass 29°C.

From mid-October, winter clouds typically arrive, and the likelihood of rain increases during the second half of autumn. Humidity also rises, contributing to the formation of fog and dew during late-night and early-morning hours. Traditional Gulf seasonal reckoning points to the "Al Safri" season, which began on September 6 and lasts until October 15, bridging the period between intense summer heat and the arrival of cooler conditions.

As the season progresses, northerly winds become more active, bringing clouds into the country. The night sky also undergoes changes, with Gemini, Taurus, Leo, Sirius, Canopus, and the Pleiades appearing in the dawn sky. The first half of autumn is considered a favorable planting period across the Arabian Peninsula. Rainfall is expected to be higher this year, potentially influenced by the strong El Niño developing in the Pacific.

While there is no exact day when summer ends, the shift towards more comfortable outdoor weather is expected to become clearer by October, with cooler evenings paving the way for barbecues, camping trips, and desert outings across the UAE.
