At the XXIII Concurso de Recortes in San Agustín del Guadalix, a small town north of Madrid, horror erupted when the lights went out during a performance by Sergio Reguera, a recortador. The lights, which had failed four times already that evening, plunged the audience into darkness when Reguera executed his signature quiebro, a last-second dodge to dodge the charging bull.

With no visibility, he was thrown to the ground by the charging bull. The medical team treated his injuries, but his arm remained sore. This incident, the 23rd in the town, highlighted the recurring lighting failures at the bullring. Witnesses noted that the organizers had no reason to continue the show after the earlier power outages.

Arribes Taurinas, a bullfighting organization, labeled the situation intolerable and called for answers. Recortes, performed without cape, sword, or protective gear, rely solely on the performer's skills, timing, and view of the bull. The incident added to a challenging year for Spanish bullrings, following other severe accidents. The organizers and town hall have not yet provided a statement on the incident.
