‘Urgent and important’: Serikin border complex fast-tracked for 2027 completion, says minister

BAU, September 21 — The RM43.66 million Serikin Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex, currently constructing at 11.23 per cent physical progress, is set to be completed by the end of next year, according to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud. The border security project, under the National Security Council (MKN), holds the 'urgent and important' status for rapid implementation.

It is also discussed in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Meeting and the MA63 Technical Committee Council. Mustapha emphasized the importance of the project in safeguarding the country's sovereignty, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak, during a working visit to the site. The construction project incorporates the main building and inspection counters, four quarters, a surau, a canteen, a guardhouse, along with mechanical and electrical services.

Mustapha highlighted the need for special attention to logistics, road construction, and provision of electricity, water, and telecommunications services to prevent operational delays upon completion. Additionally, Mustapha visited the border control post (PKS) project site in Telok Melano-Temajuk, which is in the final phase of tender process for contractor appointment before the issuance of the Letter of Acceptance (SST).

The PKS project is expected to be finished in two more years. Mustapha stressed that projects involving national security should not be treated as regular ones, a crucial understanding for all agencies, departments, ministries, contractors, and other parties involved in the project.
