Ukrainian Combat Medics Show Sweden How Drones Save Lives

On September 20, an article by Defence Blog highlighted an exchange visit between Ukrainian combat medics from the 1st Separate Medical Battalion and their Swedish counterparts in the Livgardet regiment. The Ukrainian medics showcased their expertise in utilizing drones to save lives on the battlefield. The exchange was facilitated by AIDronesUA, a Ukrainian company known for developing armored unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).

The Ukrainian medics brought along their MAUL armored UGV to demonstrate how these drones have transformed their capability to reach and recover casualties, especially in the "kill zone" – an area separating front lines from weapon strike zones, making evacuation extremely difficult.

Asan Charuhov, the battalion commander, emphasized the primary goal of their missions, stating, "Ultimately, it is about saving lives. The more people we can evacuate safely, the more lives we can save." He further explained that each mission demands meticulous preparation, considering the casualty's condition, the terrain, and the ongoing combat situation.

Charuhov added, "The people we have evacuated using UGVs might not have been able to be evacuated at all by any other means," suggesting that their lives would have been at risk.

General Michael Claesson, commander-in-chief of the Swedish Armed Forces, expressed his appreciation for the shared knowledge and technological innovations. He noted that these exchanges would enhance Sweden's ability to operate effectively on the modern battlefield, thereby strengthening the nation's defense capabilities. The collaboration between Ukrainian and Swedish military personnel underscores the global importance of sharing expertise in medical evacuation and the transformative role of technology in modern warfare.
