Ukraine's growing fleet of new high-speed interceptors is downing Russia's fastest attack drones

Ukraine is rapidly expanding its fleet of high-speed interceptors to counter Russia's fastest attack drones. These interceptors are specifically designed to engage Russian jet-powered drones such as the Geran-5. Russia has significantly increased its use of these drones, posing a significant challenge for Ukraine. Wild Hornets, a Ukrainian company, reported that one of their new Sting S interceptors successfully downed a Russian Geran-5 drone.

This marks the first confirmed success from combat testing of the new interceptor. The company plans to begin mass production after the trial period. Most of the Russian drones destroyed during testing were eliminated using remote-controlled interceptors. Ukraine is also exploring other defensive systems, including a new delta-wing interceptor developed by the SBU, which reportedly shot down a Geran-5 drone.

Russia has been intensifying its use of these drones, which can fly at nearly 375 mph and carry a 200-pound explosive warhead. Ukraine has struggled to defend against these jet drones, with interception rates dropping from 90% for propeller models to 60% for jet models.
