Two children drown while fetching water from dam in Makueni

Two children, aged six and ten, tragically drowned while fetching water from a dam on their family farm in Kathonzweni, Makueni County. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 20, 2026, when the children were left home by their grandmother, who had gone to church. Upon her return, she discovered the children missing and found their water jerricans and shoes near the dam, leading to a search by members of the public.

Tragically, the bodies of the two children were recovered from the dam and are currently being preserved for post-mortem examinations.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old secondary school student from Rubuti Secondary School in Embu County feared drowned after slipping while attempting to cross the River Tana. On the same day, police reported that he slipped on stones and was carried away by the strong current. Efforts to locate his body were ongoing as of Monday, and police are making all efforts to find him.

Additionally, a decomposed body of an unidentified man was found in Tuliange Village, Bungoma West, in a seasonal stream called Kibondoi. The body was discovered on Sunday, September 20, 2026, and was identified as an African male adult wearing a white shirt. The extensive decomposition made it difficult to determine the cause of death, and the body is currently preserved at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary for further examination.
