Confirmation hearing report adopted for land minister nominee

On Monday, a parliamentary committee in Seoul adopted a confirmation hearing report for Land Minister nominee Hong Jee-sun, clearing the way for his appointment. The report garnered consensus between the ruling Democratic Party and the main opposition People Power Party (PPP). However, the PPP expressed concerns over Hong's suitability, citing his close ties with President Lee Jae Myung and past project failures.

PPP Rep. Yoo Ui-dong, the committee chair, argued that the Democratic Party's endorsement was grounded in Hong's extensive experience and expertise as a former Gyeonggi provincial official and second vice land minister. Hong was nominated by President Lee in late August and appeared before the committee last week. Upon completion of his confirmation hearing, Hong declared his intention to mobilize both public and private resources to swiftly address housing shortages in regions with high demand.
