Three dogs captured after woman dies from suspected canine attack in Yuen Long

Three stray dogs have been captured in Yuen Long, Hong Kong, following a fatal dog attack on a woman while she was cycling, according to police and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD). The incident occurred on Pok Wai South Road, where the woman died from severe head and neck injuries. CCTV footage captured the attack around 11:40 pm on Saturday, showing three adult mongrel dogs chasing the woman along the road.

Police and AFCD officials conducted a sweep of the area on Sunday night and seized the three dogs, bringing them to the AFCD's center for further investigation. Authorities are checking if the dogs have microchips. The latest incident follows fatal dog attacks in August, including a Spanish mastiff killing two smaller dogs and a woman working at a dog shelter killed by a "fighting dog."

Fighting dogs, which include Pit Bull Terriers, Dogo Argentinos, Japanese Tosas, and Fila-Brasileiro, are subject to strict regulations, such as being muzzled in public and barred from dog-friendly restaurants. The AFCD has taken in at least seven dogs and designated them as fighting dogs, sparking criticism from veterinarians who argue that aggression can occur in any breed and blanket legislation may unfairly target well-behaved dogs.
