Swiss captain Xhaka admits obtaining Covid vaccination certificates without jab

BERLIN, Sept 21 — Swiss football captain Granit Xhaka admitted to acquiring Covid-19 vaccination certificates without actually receiving the vaccine, according to German Press Agency (dpa). In an Instagram post, the player revealed his personal doubts about the vaccine, expressing deep distrust and fears during that time. Xhaka explained that he opted for the fake certificates due to unanswered questions, rather than seeking clarification through official channels.

Last week, police in Lucerne announced that Xhaka is under investigation for allegedly obtaining false vaccination certificates. The suspected source of these certificates was his own doctor, who is also under investigation for allegedly providing the fraudulent documents. Xhaka acknowledged his mistake, expressing regret and taking full responsibility for his decision.

He stated that he will cooperate with the authorities in the investigation. Following Xhaka's confession, the Swiss Football Federation announced that he will not participate in the upcoming national team training camp.
