Shaun Edwards joins Red Roses coaching staff in return to English rugby

Shaun Edwards has returned to English rugby by joining the Red Roses coaching staff on a short-term consultancy deal. The 59-year-old, one of the world's leading defence coaches, departed France earlier this year after helping Fabien Galthie's side claim their seventh Six Nations title. Edwards, who has never coached his own country despite expressing interest in the past, will join John Mitchell's team for the remainder of their WXV Global Series itinerary.

This includes a three-Test tour of North America next month. Mitchell expressed respect for Edwards' past achievements and expressed his eagerness to learn from and work alongside the experienced veteran. Edwards has met with the squad this week as the Red Roses aim to recover from their recent match against Canada, which ended their 39-match winning streak.

Mitchell emphasized Edwards' exceptional coaching credentials and his respect for the Red Roses, stating that he sees the opportunity as a privilege. Edwards, known for his success on the field, including nine Challenge Cups with Wigan and four Premiership titles with Wasps, joins a team looking to bounce back from their recent loss. The Red Roses will face New Zealand in an upcoming Test match at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.
