Edwards signs short-term deal with Red Roses

Shaun Edwards, the renowned rugby union coach, has signed a short-term agreement with England's women's national team, the Red Roses. The 59-year-old will collaborate with the team's current defence coach, Sarah Hunter, throughout their upcoming WXV Global Series matches, which commence with New Zealand at Allianz Stadium on Saturday. This move follows England's recent 39-Test winning streak coming to an end with a 26-26 draw against Canada last weekend.

Edwards is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished coaches in rugby union. He recently parted ways with France's men's defence coaching position, where he led the team to three Six Nations titles. His coaching journey has been extensive, having previously worked with London Wasps, Wales, and France, earning 36 caps for Great Britain in rugby league before transitioning into coaching roles.

Upon Edwards' appointment, England head coach John Mitchell expressed his enthusiasm, stating that Edwards' interest in working with the Red Roses has been discussed since France's coaching position ended. He emphasized Edwards' respect for the Red Roses and his privilege in joining their environment. Edwards is praised for his exceptional coaching credentials and vast experience at the highest levels of the game.

Defensive coach Sarah Hunter looks forward to learning from Edwards alongside her fellow coaching team members as they prepare for another thrilling Test match against New Zealand. Earlier this week, Edwards expressed his eagerness to return to coaching and participate in next year's men's Six Nations, stating, "I'm definitely open to offers now, until I sort out a full-time role. I'm a proud Englishman and everybody loves to represent their country, don't they? I'm no different."
