Republicans target Las Vegas congressional district with help from Trump’s ‘no tax on tips’ policy

The Republican Party is targeting Las Vegas' 3rd Congressional District, home to Democratic Rep. Susie Lee, with the help of former President Donald Trump's "no tax on tips" policy. This policy, praised by registered Republican Susan Gonzalez, allows her to save money on her credit card bills. Gonzalez's bar, The Jackpot Bar & Grill, sits in the heart of this competitive district.

Lee, a moderate who has served the district since 2019, is facing a challenge from Republican candidate Marty O'Donnell, who received support from Trump and a $3 million personal loan. The district, with its mix of working and affluent neighborhoods, is the most competitive of Nevada's four congressional seats. Trump's proposal gained traction after he heard a suggestion from a server about taxing tips.

Both campaigns have heavily invested in advertising. Trump's policy is currently set to expire at the end of 2028, and while Lee argues it's not helping due to a decline in tourism, O'Donnell maintains that Las Vegas tourism is on the rise.
