Rauf calls for patience as PH, PN press for alliance talks

Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Ab Rauf Yusoh has advised political parties considering an alliance with the coalition for upcoming elections to exercise patience, amid calls from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders for a decision. Rauf warned against discussing the matter on social media, as it could tarnish the reputation of the involved parties, according to Bernama.

He emphasized that there is no urgency for negotiations through social media platforms, stating that official letters will be sent to all parties, inviting them to submit proposals on how they could become BN’s most suitable strategic partner. These proposals will subsequently be presented at various levels for a decision, Rauf stated.

Rauf reiterated that BN remains open to talks with any party interested in an alliance for the Melaka election. However, he did not commit to either closing or opening the door entirely for negotiations. Last night, PH election director Amirudin Shari urged BN to disclose its stance on potential alliance talks for the Melaka state election. PKR vice-president Amirudin maintained that PH would not be affected if BN decided not to form an alliance, but a decision should be made promptly to allow PH to prepare accordingly.

Similarly, Melaka Wawasan chief Rahim Thamby Chik indicated that PN would stand independently in all 28 seats of Melaka if it were unable to reach an agreement with BN.
