Rauf: BN open to alliances for Melaka polls, but don’t negotiate on social media

Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, has stated that the coalition is open to alliances for the upcoming state elections, but advises against negotiating such matters on social media. He explained that official letters would be sent to interested parties, and their proposals would be discussed at various levels before a final decision is made.

The formal negotiations will take place at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. Ab Rauf emphasized that BN respects all parties interested in working with the coalition, but stressed that the final determination will be made through formal discussions. He made these remarks after officiating the 2026 National-level National Environment Day celebration and was flanked by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, Deputy Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, and Melaka State Secretary Datuk Salhah Salleh.

Ab Rauf reiterated that BN is neither completely closed nor open to negotiations, having formed the state government in the previous election by winning 21 out of 28 seats, while the People’s Alliance (PH) secured five seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) took two. The current Melaka State Legislative Assembly term ends on December 30.
