President Ruto, Mudavadi engage US-based Kenyans ahead of UNGA 81

NAIROBI, Kenya - Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi emphasized on September 21st that Kenyans residing and working abroad play a vital role in the nation's development journey. The government aims to enhance its engagement with the Kenyan diaspora, seeking to leverage their skills, investments, and expertise to bolster growth back home.

This commitment was highlighted during a meeting held in the United States, where President William Ruto engaged with hundreds of Kenyans from across the country. The gathering included Kenyan professionals, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and young individuals building careers in the United States. Mudavadi underscored the government's intent to listen to the experiences, ambitions, and ideas of Kenyans residing abroad, exploring avenues to strengthen their connection to the nation.

He stated, "Wherever Kenyans go, Kenya goes with them." The Prime Cabinet Secretary noted that the diaspora has consistently contributed to Kenya's story beyond its borders, through professional expertise, entrepreneurship, business, and other forms of involvement. Mudavadi emphasized the government's dedication to fortifying ties between Kenya and its citizens overseas, by safeguarding them overseas while providing avenues for their contributions to national development.

Key areas identified for greater contribution from the diaspora are skills and investment. The government seeks to create more partnership opportunities, enterprise development, and job creation through stronger engagement with Kenyans abroad. Mudavadi clarified that the diaspora is not viewed as separate from Kenya's development process, instead, he sees them as an integral part of the country's journey, carrying Kenyan talent, ambition, and identity to various parts of the world while maintaining their links with the homeland.

This engagement in the United States aligns with President Ruto and senior government officials' participation in activities leading up to the 81st United Nations General Assembly. The government has been increasingly focusing on diaspora engagement as part of its efforts to strengthen economic and professional links between Kenyans abroad and opportunities at home.

Mudavadi affirmed that the administration will continue working to strengthen these connections and create avenues through which diaspora skills, investments, and partnerships can support Kenya's development.
