Police arrest 16 suspected robbers, cultists in nationwide crackdown

The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended at least 16 suspects across eight states in a nationwide crackdown on alleged kidnapping, armed robbery, homicide, sexual offenses, cultism, and drug-related activities. The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, revealed this in a state-by-state summary of successful police operations released on Sunday.

In Oyo State, four arrests were made in separate operations on September 17-18, 2026. These included a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate in Kanbi Village, two suspects for concealing kidnapping activities, and a serving personnel of a sister security agency in connection with an alleged armed robbery and abduction in Ibadan.

The recovered Toyota Camry used during the operation also went to police. In Delta State, six suspects were arrested in three separate operations, including two related to the alleged defilement of minors. In Kogi State, two suspects were arrested following a fatal shooting and a missing-person case. In Kano State, police arrested a female suspect in connection with her husband's death.

In Bayelsa State, a murder suspect was moved to protective custody in Yenagoa following community unrest. The respective State Criminal Investigation Departments are investigating all cases, while the police continue efforts to identify other persons connected with the offenses.
