Peel police union backs Alvin Tedjo in first ever endorsement of Mississauga mayoral candidate

The Peel Regional Police Association (PRPA) has made history by endorsing Alvin Tedjo as the mayoral candidate for Mississauga, marking their first endorsement of a mayoral candidate ever. Tedjo has been serving as Ward 2 councillor since 2022. In the 2024 mayoral race, he finished in second place behind incumbent Carolyn Parrish, who is seeking re-election.

PRPA, which represents over 3,800 uniform and civilian members of the Peel police, expressed their pride in supporting Tedjo during a press conference on Monday. PRPA President Adrian Woolley emphasized the importance of proactive public safety, stating that it requires leaders willing to engage in difficult conversations before a crisis escalates and becomes headline news.

Woolley expressed confidence in Tedjo's understanding of what is needed to ensure public safety and address crime on the city's streets. Tedjo, prior to entering politics, held the position of communications strategist at Toronto Metropolitan University and Sheridan College. The Mississauga mayoral race is anticipated to be closely contested between Tedjo and Parrish, along with former mayor Bonnie Crombie and Dipika Damerla, who served as Ward 7 councillor.

Parrish emerged victorious in the recent byelection following Crombie's departure to become the Ontario Liberal leader. Crombie announced her return to Mississauga politics and her candidacy for mayor in June, following her failure to secure a seat in the 2025 provincial election. Recent polling conducted by Liaison Strategies indicates that the race is essentially a head-to-head competition between Parrish and former Mississauga mayor Bonnie Crombie.
