Patrick Clancy, ex-husband of Lindsay Clancy, opens up on children’s killings in first televised interview

In a 60 Minutes interview, Patrick Clancy, the ex-husband of Lindsay Clancy, recounted the events leading up to the 2023 killings of their children and the aftermath he endured. Responding to online criticism and conspiracy theories, Clancy emphasized that it was deeply harmful to the legacy of his children and served as a major distraction from the critical issue of perinatal mental health. He lamented the impact of these attacks on himself and others, stating that they made it challenging to be in public.

Clancy detailed noticing his ex-wife's struggles with sleep deprivation and anxiety in the fall of 2022, months after the birth of their youngest son, Callan. Acknowledging his lack of knowledge in managing postpartum illness, he admitted he didn't see all the signs of her deteriorating mental health. Lindsay Clancy's condition worsened in December, leading to her admission at McLean psychiatric hospital on New Year's Eve. The children were allegedly strangled 17 days after Lindsay was released from the hospital.

Clancy hoped Callan might survive after regaining a heartbeat, expressing his desire to raise a single child and pass on the best life he could. He forgave his ex-wife, rejecting media portrayals of her as a "killer mom" or "baby murderer." Clancy, who suffered from suicidal thoughts, moved to New York City seeking anonymity. There, he processed his grief, kept items belonging to his children, and even met his second wife at a running club.

Experts at Postpartum Support International also helped him cope with the tragic events. His wife, Rachel Danis, joined him during the interview, acknowledging that they couldn't bring their children back, but they could honor them and allow Patrick to grieve while continuing to honor them in the present. The Plymouth County District Attorney has yet to decide whether to retry Lindsay Clancy for the strangling of her children before attempting to take her own life.
