NIS enrols 8,552 Nigerians in passport intervention

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has enrolled 8,552 Nigerians in passport intervention exercises held in the United States, Canada, Qatar, and the United Kingdom. This initiative, carried out under the direction of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, aims to enhance passport service delivery for Nigerians living abroad and bring services closer to them. The exercises were conducted in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and community representatives in the respective countries.

In the United States, 535 Nigerians were enrolled during a session held in Chicago and Milwaukee between September 7 and 15, 2026. In Canada, 2,257 Nigerians participated in passport exercises across Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta, and New Brunswick from September 6 to 19. In Qatar, 751 Nigerians were enrolled during an exercise conducted between August 9 and 24. The United Kingdom recorded the highest number of enrollments, with 5,099 Nigerians registering in London and Manchester during the ongoing exercise.

The NIS emphasized that the registration process in the UK is still ongoing, with passport production and dispatch occurring concurrently. For those unable to secure appointment slots or prefer not to visit centers or the High Commission in person, the Service encourages the use of the Contactless Passport Application System. The NIS remains committed to providing accessible, efficient, and timely passport services to Nigerians residing outside the country.
