Enugu Employs 160 Veterinary, Paraveterinary Workers to Revive Livestock Sector

The Enugu State Government has hired more than 160 veterinary and paraveterinary professionals to boost livestock production in the region, according to Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Patrick Nwabueze. The ministerial announcement came during a briefing session with the newly hired staff at the Ministry of Agriculture. Nwabueze explained that the recruitment was in line with Governor Peter Mbah's strategy to rejuvenate the agricultural sector, particularly livestock production, and bolster the required human resources to foster the sector's growth.

The commissioner emphasized that there were 17 veterinary clinics spread across the local governments in Enugu, and the state aimed to restore their functionality. During the recruitment process, they ensured only the most qualified individuals were selected to take charge of the livestock sector. Nwabueze highlighted that the livestock sector had suffered from a dearth of professionals who could provide essential veterinary and technical services in the region.

He expressed that the newly recruited workforce would enable Enugu to compete in livestock production, and the government would introduce technology and innovation to enhance productivity.

Dr. Ifeyinwa Nnajieze, the state Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), also addressed the new employees. She said that three of the newly hired workers would be assigned to each of the 17 local government areas to offer livestock-related services. Nnajieze noted that the governor's intention to revive the state's livestock sector is evident, as it moves from mere subsistence to a commercialized sector.

She urged the new employees to take their responsibilities seriously, warning that the government would not tolerate any indiscipline or lack of dedication in the discharge of their duties.
