N. Korea says tested new weapon system earlier this week

North Korea declared on Tuesday that it had recently tested a new combat weapon system, emphasizing the significance of the development in showcasing the progress of the nation's military technology. The missile bureau carried out the test on Sunday, under the watchful eye of leader Kim Jong-un, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). Despite not clarifying the nature of the weapon system, North Korea highlighted the importance of the test for advancing weapons technology.

The disclosure came two days after South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) reported that North Korea had launched two short-range ballistic missiles towards the East Sea from the Wonsan region. Kim Jong-un characterized the test as "an unquestionable demonstration of advanced defense technology" and called it a "clear renewal in the modernization of the armed forces," as stated by the KCNA.

Acknowledging the potential impact of such technology on the country's war readiness and future growth of its armed forces, Kim suggested that North Korea's adversaries would gain a better understanding of the technological advancement.
