N. Korea says tested new weapon system earlier this week

North Korea announced on Tuesday that it conducted a test of a new combat weapon system earlier this week, marking a significant advancement in the country's weapons technology. The missile bureau successfully carried out the test on Sunday, with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un present, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). While the specific weapon system was not mentioned, the agency emphasized the importance of the test for advancing weapons technology.

The announcement followed South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) revealing two days prior that North Korea had launched two short-range ballistic missiles towards the East Sea from the Wonsan area. Kim Jong-un described the test as an "unquestionable demonstration of advanced defense technology" and a "clear renewal in the modernization of the armed forces," according to KCNA.

Kim further stressed that such advanced technology would enhance the country's war preparedness and future development of its armed forces. He also noted that North Korea's adversaries would gain a better understanding of the technological progress following the test.
