Military milestone: Ukrainian naval drone sinks Russian kamikaze drone boat

In a historic first, a Ukrainian naval drone successfully sank a Russian kamikaze drone boat in a recent clash. This milestone event occurred on September 12 during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Ukraine's Defense Intelligence detected the Russian uncrewed surface vessel (USV) and promptly ordered a Ukrainian Navy drone boat to engage.

The Russian vessel, identified as an Orcan surface drone equipped with a jet ski-type steerable water jet capable of ramming and exploding targets, had previously targeted Ukrainian ports and ships. Naval analyst HI Sutton noted that Orcan drones are often used in tandem with flying drones like Russian Geran drones to provide aerial reconnaissance and enhance communication between drone operators and boats.
