Meta's Facebook, Instagram recover after brief outage in US

On September 20, Meta's social media platforms Facebook and Instagram experienced a brief outage in the United States, affecting thousands of users. The disruption began at around 8:55 p.m. ET and peaked at over 17,000 reports of outages on Facebook, and more than 5,000 reports on Instagram, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

The reports of outages had significantly decreased by approximately 10 p.m. ET, indicating a recovery of the services. Meta has not yet commented on the incident. It's important to note that the figures on Downdetector are based on user-submitted reports, which may not accurately represent the total number of affected users. Similar issues were reported in July, with Downdetector logging up to 4,808 reports of problems on Facebook and 2,829 on Instagram.
