Makkah Grand Mosque muezzin dies after final call to prayer

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamza Al-Madani, the muezzin of the Makkah Grand Mosque, Masjid Al Haram, has passed away following his final Adhan on Monday. Inside the Haramain announced his death on X, describing it as "with great sadness." The muezzin raised his last Adhan at Masjid Al-Haram on 11 Rabi Al-Awwal 1448 AH. The funeral prayer for Al-Madani will be held after Asr prayer on Monday at the mosque, with his burial at Al-Mu 'alla Cemetery in Makkah.

Al-Madani was appointed as the mosque's muezzin in 1439 AH (2017-2018). Born in Madinah in 1397 AH (1976), he developed a strong connection to the Adhan from a young age. Al-Madani served as a muezzin at 15 years old in Madinah, sharing the responsibility with three other young men. He later stepped away from the role for education purposes and resumed calling the Adhan at Masjid Al-Maddah before being appointed to Masjid Al-Haram.

Al-Madani's formative years in Madinah influenced his style of Adhan, which bore resemblance to the Madinan style. He also became familiar with the Makkan style during visits to Makkah with his father. Following his death, Inside the Haramain expressed prayers for Allah's mercy upon Al-Madani and for his reward for his service as a muezzin at the Sacred House.
