Mahama begins construction of 400-bed Mother and Child Block at Korle Bu

Government officials have initiated land preparation for the construction of a state-of-the-art 400-bed Mother and Child Block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The initiative, as confirmed by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, is designed to replace the current maternity unit, which has fallen into disrepair.

The project is part of President John Mahama's commitment to investing in cutting-edge healthcare facilities across the nation. The new block will offer a comprehensive range of specialized services and units. These include Maternity and Obstetrics Wards, Delivery Suites, Operating Rooms, and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Additional features will encompass a High Dependency Unit (HDU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), IVF and Assisted Reproductive Technology Centre, Antenatal and Postnatal Clinics, Fertility and Reproductive Health Clinics, Breastfeeding and Family Planning Units, and an Emergency Obstetric Care Unit.

To support these services, the facility will also house a Diagnostic Imaging Department, Laboratory and Blood Bank Facilities, a Pharmacy Department, Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Units. Moreover, the project will cater to educational, research, and conference needs.

This development, according to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, epitomizes President Mahama's renewed focus on enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Ghana, with the ultimate goal of improving healthcare delivery throughout the country.
