(LEAD) Lee to embark on trip to U.N. General Assembly, state visit to Mexico this week

President Lee Jae Myung is preparing for a significant two-nation journey this week, according to a presidential official. The South Korean leader will begin his trip in New York on Monday, where he will address the United Nations General Assembly during the U.N. High-Level Week.

During his time at the U.N., Lee is expected to seek contact with U.S. President Donald Trump through multiple channels. He plans to deliver a speech on Tuesday (U.S. time) proposing ways to reform the U.N. to address global issues and highlight South Korea's contributions. Lee will also aim to outline his administration's vision for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula during his address, as noted by National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac.

Following his speech at the U.N., Lee will continue to engage in high-level contacts with heads of state, including those of the U.S., Australia, and other major countries. The purpose of these talks is to maintain close exchanges and explore opportunities for cooperation aimed at expanding South Korea's national interests.

Upon returning from the United States, President Lee will embark on a state visit to Mexico on Wednesday at the invitation of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. The following day, Lee and Sheinbaum will have summit talks, a luncheon, and a joint press conference. The primary focus of these meetings will be to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, investment, and supply chains. Lee is expected to depart Mexico on Saturday and return home the following day.
