Laser-focused Ying Ting delivers clean Asian Games debut

NAGOYA: Wushu athlete Loh Ying Ting, competing in her Asian Games debut, expressed satisfaction with her performance in the women's changquan final at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall on Monday. The 28-year-old Malaysian earned a score of 9.666 from the judges, placing her 11th overall, just behind teammate Lee Jia Rong. Ying Ting noted that she was pleased with her execution, stating, "It was an above average performance I would say."

She emphasized her focus on her eyes, expression, and breathing, adding, "I am happy overall, I did not get distracted by the environment." The wushu competitor acknowledged the challenges of transitioning from junior to senior level, mentioning that she used to get easily distracted by the competition environment during her junior years.

Ying Ting explained, "The transition from junior to senior was quite stressful. The seniors have movements which are much more different from the juniors so it took time to catch up." She credited watching videos and seeking advice from senior athletes for helping her adapt. The wushu competition will continue on Tuesday, with flag bearer Tan Cheong Min set to lead Malaysian hopes in the women's nanquan and nandao events.
