LASEMA clears container truck obstruction on Lagos road

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has successfully resolved a major obstruction on a major Lagos road caused by a tilted container truck. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 11:21pm, when a Mack truck carrying two 20-foot containers broke down while attempting a U-turn at National-Ashade. The tanker's tyres reportedly burst, causing the truck to tilt and block approximately 80% of the roadway.

LASEMA's Eagle Response Team was swiftly activated upon receiving a report of the incident. Upon arrival, they implemented immediate traffic diversion measures, secured the area, and awaited heavy-duty equipment to secure the situation. Through a coordinated effort involving a private crane, two forklifts, and LASEMA's lowbed truck, the containers were recovered and placed on the agency's lowbed.

The Mack truck was then towed to the LASTMA yard at Oshodi using a private tow truck. The road was fully cleared and reopened for free vehicular movement, with no loss of life or injury reported. LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, praised the agency's Cobra and Eagle Response Teams and other collaborating agencies for their swift intervention.

He urged drivers of heavy vehicles to maintain their vehicles properly, obey traffic rules, and exercise caution while driving on Lagos roads. The public was also urged to report emergencies promptly through the toll-free lines 767 and 112.
