KL mayor: Sunday flash floods hit city after Ampang, Lembah Keramat record 155mm rainfall

Flash floods struck various areas of Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, following an unusually heavy rainfall of 155 millimetres recorded in Ampang and Lembah Keramat catchment regions. This rainfall was over five times the typical 30 millimetres seen in the capital city. Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud reported that heavy to very heavy rain impacted the Klang Valley on Sunday afternoon, with Lembah Keramat experiencing the highest accumulation at 155.5 mm, compared to the usual 30 mm. As of 5:30 pm, Lembah Keramat had recorded the most rainfall among the affected areas.

Flooded zones included Ampang, Taman U-Thant, and Jalan Ampang, causing traffic disruptions across the city. Concerns arose regarding foreign worker accommodation at the Federal Territory Affordable Housing Project (Residensi Max) on Jalan Kolam Air. Mayor Fadlun indicated that the Commissioner of Buildings had warned the developer against converting utility rooms for this purpose, cautioning against housing workers in rooms meant for other uses. The COB continues to monitor the situation.

Residents at Residensi Max had previously expressed concerns over foreign nationals living there, with the issue reportedly ongoing for nearly a year. The Residensi Max Residents’ Association chairman, Muhammed Assyafiq Ahmad Kamal, voiced frustration with the management for failing to cooperate in resolving the matter.
