Kenya to break ground on Dangote refinery – Ruto

Kenyan President William Ruto announced on Monday that the country is prepared to break ground on the East Africa Refinery project in Lamu. The refinery, being developed in partnership with Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote and the Africa Finance Corporation, is set to be a transformative project for the region. Ruto emphasized that the refinery would bolster energy security, stimulate local value addition, generate employment, and advance the industrialization agenda in East Africa.

He stated, "We are ready to break ground on the East Africa refinery in Lamu, a transformative project that will enhance the region’s energy security, deepen local value addition, create jobs and advance our industrialisation agenda."

Ruto's administration is committed to advancing the project from the planning stage to implementation, ensuring that it delivers economic benefits to the people of the region. The refinery is projected to have a processing capacity of 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day and is expected to serve markets across East and Central Africa. It is part of Kenya's broader vision to transform the area into a multifaceted hub encompassing energy, industrialization, and logistics.
