Indore Road Collapse: 10-Foot-Deep Pit Opens Outside Pandharinath Police Station

On Monday morning, a substantial portion of the cemented road adjacent to the Pandharinath Police Station in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, dramatically collapsed, forming a pit exceeding 10 feet in depth. Fortunately, there were no vehicles traveling on the affected stretch at the time of the incident, which averted any potential accidents.

The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) was promptly informed of the incident around 11 am and swiftly dispatched a team equipped with a JCB machine to fill the pit and initiate repair works. The municipal officials stated that the cause of the sudden road collapse is currently under investigation, with potential factors such as leakage, damaged pipelines, drainage issues, or an underlying cavity being considered.

Local resident Shah Rukh Khan had previously noticed a smaller pit at the location on September 19; he documented a video and submitted a formal complaint. However, by Monday, the pit had expanded in size, reaching a depth of more than 10 feet. Rahul Suryavanshi, the zonal officer of the IMC, revealed that a new road has already been proposed at the site.

The civic body filled the pit with approximately 10 cubic meters of material, representing roughly two vehicle loads. Officials plan to reinspect the area after a day or two and determine if any further cement work is necessary. Suryavanshi also mentioned that a drainage line was installed in the area around a decade ago. Additionally, the road is slated for widening to 60 feet under the master plan.
